Tony Khan Fires Back At Criticism Of “Dream Match”

Tony Khan AEW

Since All Elite Wrestling launched back in 2019, President Tony Khan has never been shy about responding to critics of the promotion on Twitter.

This meant that when some fans were critical of his most recent announcement, Khan wasted little time in going on the offensive.

After teasing that a big announcement was on the way, on March 17th Khan announced that Kenny Omega and El Hijo del Vikingo would be meeting in a dream match on the upcoming episode of Dynamite (March 22nd). The match had been due to take place in AAA back in 2021, but was scrapped due to Omega taking time off to heal multiple injuries.

Following the news some questioned whether it really is a “dream match” and wondering who the Mexican star is. Others also criticised Khan and AEW for putting on the match with little to no build up.

The criticism then became a talking point on social media with Lucha Blog weighing in.

You’re not expected to know who everyone is, I know a lot of people and there still are others I’m learning about every day but also if you have the time to type “who?”, and click post you also have the time to google. posting “who?” is just waving a “I’m a goof, ignore me” flag.”

Tony Khan responded to the post claiming that the criticism wasn’t coming from “real people.”

“They aren’t doing it to be genuine. A large % of those replies aren’t from real people, a lot of them are accounts that upon inspection seem to only exist to question and rip AEW and most of their other content seems to be a cover story to justify the existence of these accounts.”

He then suggested he had checked the profiles of some of the people posting negative tweets to check if they had praised AEW in the past as they had said.

“One of my favorite bits they do is when they claim they used to love AEW in the old days, but not anymore, yet when you dig into their old posts, there’s nothing positive on AEW ever. Yes, I’m sure you all used to be great fans despite no evidence of that whatsoever.”

Tony Khan Has Tried To Work With El Hijo del Vikingo Before

This isn’t the first time that AEW has tried to feature El Hijo del Vikingo, it has been reported that they originally wanted the star to compete in the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match. Instead, they drafted in fellow Mexican high-flyer Komander.
