Tony Khan explains absence of a notable match from AEW Revolution.
With just a couple of days away, AEW Revolution is set to be one of the most stacked and impressive PPVs in a long time. With several title matches scheduled for the night, one iconic match has been missing from the card.
The absence of the staple “Face of the Revolution” ladder match has been noted absent on the PPV set for Los Angeles, California, on March 9th, 2025. Speaking on the Revolution pre-show media call, Khan explained the decision.
“There are so many great matches around the company right now, and we’ve had some great ladder matches, and it’s really about placing matches at the right time. I don’t want to do too many ladder matches, or too many of the same kind of stipulation matches and become repetitive.
You will see great ladder matches in AEW, I think we’ve had some real classics over the years, and the Face of the Revolution ladder match we’ve had some excellent matches. But it’s about putting the right people in the right situations at the right times.”

The first “Face of the Revolution” ladder match was in 2021, when Scorpio Sky won the ladder match to earn a shot at the TNT Championship. Next year in 2022, Wardlow won the ladder match. In 2023, Powerhouse Hobbs won the match, which happened on the final Dynamite episode before the Revolution PPV.
Tony Khan Addresses John Cena’s WWE Heel Turn
Arguably one of the biggest incidents in the pro-wrestling industry now, AEW President Tony Khan has shared his thoughts on John Cena’s heel turn. Speaking on the same pre-Revolution media call, Khan was asked whether Cena’s turn would influence his company’s creative decisions.
“We’re really very happy with the shows right now. The quality of the shows has been tremendous, and we helped build a lot of excitement around the original Revolution by just doing great shows week in, week out. It worked so well for us, so I think if we do that here, it will pay off for us.”
