Tony Khan has listened to the fans and responded.
Expanding the AEW PPV line-up even further in 2023, the promotion presented their biggest show in history with All In emanating live from Wembley Stadium in London. Setting a new record for AEW attendance and very well-received by the UK fans, the show was very much a success. Unfortunately, fans in Chicago were not as pleased.
Keeping up the yearly tradition of hosting All Out over Labour Day weekend in the United States, All Out took place in The Windy City just 7 days later and felt inferior by comparison. With many top stars not on the card as they had competed just 7 days ago and few high-profile matches, fans in Chicago felt short-changed with their pay-per-view that was treated more like an afterthought.
When AEW announced that they would be returning to London once again in 2024, it appeared that Chicago was once again set to receive another B-show quality card and not one fitting of a big 4. However, in more positive news for fans looking to attend, AEW confirmed that the show had been pushed back a week and would give more time to build to the show following the events that will take place at All In.
In recent news, Tony Khan addressed Adam Copeland’s injury status at AEW Double or Nothing.
“I Like Listening To The Fan Feedback”: Tony Khan
Speaking with Stephanie Chase of Digital Spy, Khan stated that he was proud of both shows that took place last year but was aware that a lot of fans had the same comment about the scheduling:
“It was really a great two-week period last year of back-to-back weekends with All In and All Out. There was a lot of feedback of, ‘Hey, what about more time between the shows?’ and they’re both holiday weekends and I think there’s a utility to both the weekends. Labor Day weekend has been really kind around Chicago to AEW. I wanted to continue putting AEW on in September and I wanted to give the fans in Chicago a great show and I was thinking how can I give them an even better show,”
Continuing, Khan added that the decision was one that many agreed with and he is always open to feedback from the fans:
“We have the ability to have a major event at Wembley and continue the tradition of an early September wrestling pay-per-view for Chicago. [The decision] has been very well received people seem to think it was a good move and I really do like listening to the fan feedback.”
With Double or Nothing taking place on May 26th, Tony Khan has teased big things for the show.
