AEW President Tony Khan has revealed that executives of both Warner Media and Discovery will be in attendance for Dynamite after the two companies merged.
WarnerMedia – which owns TBS and TNT – has recently merged with Discovery, with WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar already a casualty with warnings of more cuts to come to the new media conglomerate. The New York Post reported that new CEO David Zaslav is expected to “take a scalpel” to the new company which will be known as Warner Bros. Discovery.
Billionaire media mogul John Malone, who is a longtime stakeholder in Discovery previously commented that “cost synergies” – read “cuts” – for the newly merged company should be expected to “easily go past” $3 billion to $4 billion a year.
While many onlookers have commented on what this might mean going forward for AEW, the wrestling promotion’s President, Tony Khan, seems excited for the future. Speaking to Richard Deitsch of the Sports Media Podcast, Khan confirmed network executives will be in attendance when Dynamite makes its California debut and says the partnership between AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery is going to be a strong one:
“I’m very excited because we’re at [The Kia Forum arena in Inglewood, California] next week, and I’m really just honoured, and it’s a great privilege for us because a lot of the top executives from Warner Bros. Discovery are going to be at The Forum. They’re throwing a great event for us afterwards in The Forum … with a lot of the people in AEW, and we’re going to hang out, and that means the world to us, getting to know each other better.”
“It means so much to us to be working with the largest producer of content now after this great merger. It’s an honour to be a part of this family … and it’s going to be so strong.”
