Tony Khan Explains Why He “Encourages” USA Network & FOX’s Interest In MJF

After reports emerged indicating WWE and their broadcast partner’s interest in MJF, AEW President Tony Khan explains why he encourages WWE to covet his top talent.

Andrew Zarian of Mat Men Radio recently reported that WWE’s television partners FOX and the USA Network are very keen on turning one of the pillars of AEW into a WWE Superstar in the future.

Zarian quoted a source at one of those networks who commented on the notorious promo battle between MJF and CM Punk as saying:

“I actually stopped what I was doing and listened to him. I don’t think I have done that with pro wrestling in a long time.”

A source from within WWE itself was also reported as stating:

“He has everything we would want. It really depends on if he could be that same person on WWE TV. We want new stars to be the focus within the next few years. That’s the plan.”

Now speaking to CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouri AEW President Tony Khan says he has no problem with WWE taking an interest in MJF because he has taken an interest and signed plenty of their former talent:

“I think that’s great. I encourage that. I think they should keep talking about him because he’s a wrestler that’s a big part of AEW and is signed here for a few more years. So I think please keep giving us that buzz because he’s been getting great ratings for his segments. And those have also been featuring CM Punk pretty regularly as they continue to interact.”

“You know, [WWE] had some wrestlers I really wanted to sign there and I signed them – Bryan Danielson and Adam [Cole] and Ruby Soho.”

MJF and CM Punk will do more than just interact when they meet on AEW Dynamite in six-man tag team action. MJF will team with his Pinnacle partners FTR to take on the team of Darby Allin, Sting, and Punk.
