Tony Khan has been asked if there will ever be an AEW Hall of Fame.
As WWE builds to WrestleMania in early April, the latest class of inductees will be officially recognised for their contributions to the industry immediately after the final SmackDown before Mania. With multiple promotions having their own respective Hall of Fames, does Khan envision his own promotion holding their own ceremony at some point in the future?
Speaking with ComicBook Nation, Khan was asked if Sting, who recently retired, would be the first inductee into the Hall of Fame. Khan admitted that although he hasn’t thought about it, The Icon would be very deserving of the accolade:
“We have never talked about a Hall of Fame. Sting is one of the most important people in the history of the wrestling business and certainly one of the most important people ever in AEW,”
Sting was previously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016 and was the first-ever inductee in the TNA Hall of Fame in 2012.
Thinking about who would be in the first class of inductees, Khan listed the late Brodie Lee and Jay Briscoe as two names who should join The Icon in being recognised:
“If we ever do an AEW Hall of Fame, certainly the first two people that come to mind that we would have to honor would be Sting and Mr. Brodie Lee. Two of the greatest champions and two of the greatest people we’ve had in AEW. Very different circumstances, but those would be the first two people that come to my mind. Somebody that never got to wrestle in AEW that I also feel very strongly about who needs to be talked about and honored is Jay Briscoe, who I always wanted to bring in to AEW.
He was my friend and friends with a lot of people in the locker room and one of the greatest wrestlers I ever worked with and produced. Jay Briscoe is someone very important to all of us, even though he never got the chance to wrestle in AEW. I do think Sting and Mr. Brodie Lee would be great people to build any Hall of Fame class around,”
Tony Khan Discusses Jack Perry Competing In NJPW
Jack Perry has not been seen on AEW TV since All In, which was where the infamous backstage altercation with CM Punk took place. Perry would later appear for New Japan in January 2024 and would call himself “Scapegoat” in reference to the controversies. During the same interview, Tony Khan gave his thoughts about what Jack Perry is doing in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
H/t to Fightful.
