Tony Khan Discusses Original Plans For Scrapped AEW Match

Tony Khan announced the postponement of the highly anticipated Meat Madness match scheduled for the AEW Revolution 2024 event.

Originally planned as a Three-Way match involving Lance Archer, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Wardlow, the match was replaced by an All-Star Scramble, featuring the aforementioned wrestlers along with Brian Cage, Chris Jericho, Hook, and two additional yet-to-be-determined names.

During a media call ahead of the Revolution event, Tony Khan shed light on the decision to alter the match while speaking to Bill Pritchard of WrestleZone, citing his inspiration for the original concept. He expressed his desire to create a multi-man scramble, aiming to energize the crowd with the Meat Madness match, drawing inspiration from previous events such as AEW All Out 2023.

I wanted to put a lot of the big wrestlers and get the crowd fired up for a multi-man scramble, a Meat Madness match. I think the crowd would enjoy it and it would be a lot of fun,

Khan revealed that his initial vision included the participation of prominent wrestlers, intending to craft an entertaining and engaging experience for the audience. However, due to the unavailability of key wrestlers like Miro and Keith Lee, along with other big men being sidelined due to injuries, Khan felt the depth required for the Meat Madness match was lacking.

But some of the wrestlers I was hoping to use….right now, Miro and Keith Lee are both out. Neither one is available, and some of our big men being out injured, I wanted to have the depth in the field to do the match I originally envisioned and people would enjoy that,

Given the circumstances, Khan pivoted to showcase other great stars and rivalries through the All-Star Scramble. He emphasised that once all the significant wrestlers are back in action, he intends to resurrect the Meat Madness concept. Until then, the decision was made to put the match “on ice.”

We have other great stars and rivalries to showcase, so I made it an All-Star Scramble. When we get all of our big men healthy at the same time, I still want to take the Meat Madness concept off the shelf, get it out of the freezer, thaw it out, but until then I put Meat Madness on ice.
