Tony Khan discusses Jack Perry and his new character change in New Japan.
Perry made a shock appearance at the NJPW Battle in the Valley pay-per-view, ripping up his AEW contract and branding himself as the “Scapegoat.” Perry last appeared on TV for the promotion at the All In pay-per-view in August 2023, where an alteration with CM Punk resulted in the former Tag Team Champion being suspended and CM Punk being fired.
In the months that followed, Perry has barely been mentioned with some questioning if he is still actually a part of the company. A recent report surfaced from Dave Meltzer stating that Tony Khan is still mad at Perry over the incident as he felt that Perry was responsible for Punk’s exit.
During an interview with ComicBook, Khan was asked about his thoughts on Perry’s new incarnation as the “Scapegoat” and his involvement with the faction House of Torture. Khan teased that Perry may continue to be this iteration of his character if/when he returns to the company and has been keeping track of the former FTW Champion:
“Well, I think you gotta stay tuned. Absolutely, Jack’s doing great things in New Japan. The New Japan Cup – he’s had a great run. He’s established himself over there. He feels he’s the ‘Scapegoat.’ But he’s doing great things, and he’s wrestling for a great promotion, and it’s been great tracking Jack’s progress in New Japan. And I think he’s done excellent work there.”
