Tony Khan Discusses Don Callis’ Role In AEW

Kenny Omega & Don Callis

Speaking during the AEW Double or Nothing media scrum, AEW President Tony Khan has discussed the role that Don Callis currently plays in the company.

Until recently Callis worked as Co-Executive Vice President with IMPACT Wrestling. However, a report has emerged suggesting that Callis is no longer an executive “in any capacity” with IMPACT and Anthem Sports and Entertainment.

On-screen Callis has appeared with Kenny Omega since aligning himself with the AEW World Champion back in December. Including being by his side at Double or Nothing as he took on PAC and Orange Cassidy.

Following the event, Tony Khan described Callis as “an important member of the team.”

“Don is a big part of our television. Don’s here every week, so Don is with us at AEW. He’s a part of the team as Kenny’s mouthpiece, Kenny’s advisor, and Kenny is on the show every week so Don is on the show every week, and every pay-per-view. As long as Kenny is the champion, Don is a huge part of AEW. Don is an important member of the team here every week.”

Expanding further, Khan revealed that Callis also helps behind the scenes and believes he will be appearing next to Omega for a long time to come.

“I mean, he’s been [helping behind-the-scenes]. He helps with Kenny’s segments, and he’s involved, and he’s a consultant backstage. I mean, that’s pretty much the same. He’s doing that here and there was a point where he’s been here every week. I think it makes sense. We’re doing TV now, we’re going back live in a few weeks, so he’s going to be here. We got Kenny against Jungle Boy in two weeks… Kenny is defending all the titles, he’s got the IMPACT Title, the AAA Title, and we’ll see but I think he’s going to be with Kenny wherever Kenny is. I think Kenny is signed here for years, so I think Don will be here for years, like it or not.”

During the scrum, Khan also addressed his his recent promo taking aim at WWE. During the monologue, Khan taunted WWE and the man he described as the “con-man from Connecticut,” WWE President, Nick Khan.

The promo came after it was reported that Nick Khan had been in talks with NJPW regarding an exclusive partnership.

Discussing the promo, Khan said that New Japan had approved of his comments.
