Just moments after All In concluded, Tony Khan went off at the media scrum over the FTW Championship being termed a “joke”.
At All In 2024, Hook defeated Chris Jericho to win the FTW Championship for a record third time. Towards the closing stages of the match, Hook’s father Taz returned and helped his son earn the victory.
Soon after, at the All In media scrum, things turned heated when Tony Khan had to justify the gravity of the FTW title. The FTW Championship was first created by Taz in 1998 during his time in ECW. The title was crafted to showcase Taz’s personal achievements and was never sanctioned by the promotion. However, it soon gained popularity.
After ECW shut down, the championship was retired but was later revived by AEW in 2020. Although, an extremely popular achievement on the roster, the FTW title is unsanctioned by the promotion. This led to the notion of the championship’s status as a joke. However, Tony Khan did not take the allegations seriously and justified the entire scenario.
It wasn’t a joke or an insult. I brought it in as a really important part of the company, it wasn’t a joke or an insult. Taz didn’t bring it in as an insult at all. He brought it in to represent someone who was the top pushed heel against the strongest booked best wrestler in the world at the time, which is and was Jon Moxley.

He further stated that while not recognized as an official title, AEW highly values the championship, and the success it brought to several wrestlers. Brian Cage, Hook, Jack Perry, Chris Jericho, and Ricky Starks have all held the title.
Khan did not shy from the “joke” question and felt it was his responsibility to clear the air about this misconception.
