Tony Khan talks the timing of releasing footage of CM Punk at AEW All In.
AEW All In was a record-breaking success for the company, but backstage drama reared its ugly head when CM Punk and Jack Perry were involved in an altercation. CM Punk was fired after an investigation into the situation, and Perry hasn’t been seen in AEW since.
On the April 6th episode of Collision, The Young Bucks made the shocking revelation that they would be airing footage of the altercation between Punk and Perry on the April 10th episode of Dynamite. Tony Khan later confirmed that the company plans to air the real footage from the incident.
Speaking in a new interview with Uproxx, AEW President Tony Khan hyped up Dynamite and his excitement for The Young Bucks to show the footage.
“It’ll be a must-see segment when the Young Bucks play this footage and talk about what happened at Wembley Stadium and how it relates to what’s coming up next for the Young Bucks in AEW. I think that it will create a lot of interest in what this is all about. And I think the Young Bucks will have an explanation for why they think this is important and why it’s relevant to what’s going on at AEW Dynasty on pay-per-view.”
Tony Khan Claims AEW All In Footage Relates To Plans For Dynasty
The announcement that the backstage footage would be released comes shortly after CM Punk took part in an explosive interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. The interview saw Punk address his altercation with Jack Perry and take a shot at AEW management in the process. However, Khan insists that his decision to air the footage is in relation to upcoming plans for Dynasty and does not have to do with Punk’s comments.
“That was interesting timing given where everything stands.”
“For us, this is a decision based on the timing of our upcoming pay-per-view, AEW Dynasty, and given where the Young Bucks stand going into the World Tag Team Championship Tournament finals at AEW Dynasty. This was the right time and place for them to play this footage and talk about why it’s relevant to them and AEW going forward and what this means going into AEW Dynasty.”
Now that the segment has aired, the backstage reaction from AEW has been revealed.
