Eric Bischoff is less than impressed with how Tony Khan is managing AEW.
It might be somewhat hard to believe now but in the early years of AEW, Eric Bischoff actually had a strong relationship with the company. He appeared on AEW programming on more than one occasion, and he was on good terms with Tony Khan. However, throughout 2022 the pair clashed in interviews and on social media, with Bischoff being increasingly more critical of the promotion.
Much of Bischoff’s criticism comes from the lack of growth in ratings for Dynamite, as well as Khan’s handling of the multiple controversies around CM Punk.
In recent weeks, Punk has been back in the news again, and his beef with Hangman Adam Page is again front and centre. Speaking on his Strictly Business podcast, Bischoff again broke down how the whole saga is a failure of management.
“The lack of leadership, the lack of professionalism, is manifested by somebody [who] is talking to these outside news sites,” said Bischoff. “This is internal business. This should be dealt with internally and it’s not. There are too many people talking outside of the office. This is in my opinion proprietary confidential information that shouldn’t be shared with anybody.”
Bischoff went on to describe the situation as the “inmates running the asylum.”
“It’s literally the inmates running the asylum at this point and the entire company looks like a giant clown car filled with juvenile unprofessional self-absorbed children,” said Bischoff. “Not all of them obviously, I don’t want to cast such a broad net, but I’ve never seen anything like this before. Could you imagine if Tony Khan would have been able to buy WWE? You can’t manage a clown car at this point.”
What Has Tony Khan Said About CM Punk?
With regard to CM Punk, Tony Khan has had very little to say about his controversial star. When asked about the situation during a recent interview, Khan declined to comment.
