The AEW Trios Championships have been officially confirmed by Tony Khan, but they made not be the only new championships coming into All Elite Wrestling.
Trios Championships for All Elite Wrestling have long been in-demand by fans. Recently, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer confirmed that AEW Trios Championships had been made, with Tony Khan himself now reiterating that they are indeed in existence. However, they may not be the only new titles up Tony’s sleeve.
Speaking to TSN, the AEW CEO teased other championships could be on their way into the company, though he didn’t say specifically what these titles could be (h/t Fightful):
“I saw Dave reported it and nobody’s asked me on the record yet, but it is truthful that I have made the belts. I made them a long time ago, to be honest with you. They’ve never been seen, and I did have them made. I do have more championship belts in my possession that have never been unveiled than anybody might suspect. The TBS Championship was in my office for months at the shows before anybody knew it was going to be unveiled, for example, recently.
The Ring of Honor purchase and now the great stable of champions[hips] and IP and, not only the legacy of past events, but the great slate of, I think, potential future events we can do with Ring of Honor and all that was kind of a surprise to everybody that we kept under wraps, that came together more quickly, whereas the trios championships are something I’ve thought about for a long time. But there are more championship belts than people might think that I’ve had up my sleeve and the trios championship are, arguably, the foremost.”
AEW Trios Championships will allow their three-man division to grow and expand, with a plethora of trios already on offer in AEW. When, exactly, they will debut remains to be seen, but Tony Khan seems adamant on waiting until Kenny Omega returns from injury. ‘The Best Bout Machine’ would presumably team with The Young Bucks to challenge for the championships.
Since its inception, All Elite Wrestling has slowly built up an outstanding trios division, with the likes of The Blackpool Combat Club, The House of Black, and Death Triangle being among them. Larger stables, like the recently-formed Jericho Appreciation Society, will have various incarnations to send into battle over the championships.
As it stands, AEW currently has five official championships on offer; Adam Page has the AEW World Championship, Scorpio Sky the AEW TNT Championship, Thunder Rosa the AEW Women’s World Championship, Jade Cargill the AEW TBS Championship, and the Jurassic Express the AEW World Tag Team Championships. Ricky Starks also holds the FTW Championship, though this isn’t officially recognised.
