AEW President Tony Khan has confirmed an injury to one of the company’s stars and says that AEW is going to support them throughout.
At Blood and Guts, the Blackpool Combat Club, alongside Santana, Ortiz, and Eddie Kingston went to war with The Jericho Appreciation Society. A bloody battle ensued that saw glass, thumbtacks, wooden skewers, and a fork involved before Sammy Guevara was thrown from the top of the double cage by Kingston to the floor below.
However, it was in the ring that a nasty injury appeared to happen as seconds after entering the match, Santana landed awkwardly after delivering an uranage, apparently injuring his knee.
The former Inner Circle stayed down for the majority of the rest of the match, lying at the side of the ring out of the way of any of the action taking place.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Tony Khan has now confirmed the injury to Santana and says it could be a relatively long injury:
“I haven’t talked much publicly about it. He is injured and it’s unfortunate. Obviously, it’s a very dangerous match, and going into it, we knew injuries were a possibility. Santana is a great pro wrestler and part of a great tag team with Ortiz. We really value him. I did speak to him after, I know he’s injured, we’re going to stand by Santana and support him through the injury and do what we can. It’s the right thing to do.”
“Hopefully, it won’t be too long, but it could be a relatively long injury. It could be a while that Santana is out, but we’re here for whatever he needs. It’s unfortunate that the Blood & Guts match does come with injuries. It’s a knee injury that he suffered. Hopefully, he’ll be back, relatively soon.”
Santana is the latest in a long line of AEW stars currently out with an injury. CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Kenny Omega, and Adam Cole are just a few of the top names currently said to be hurt.
