AEW President Tony Khan has commented on the shocking return of MJF to AEW after he appeared for the first time in months at All Out.
Eyebrows were raised during the Casino Ladder Match at All Out when masked men interfered, attacking all participants, allowing one of them to ascend the ladder and grab the chip that guarantees them a shot at the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.
That man was Stokely Hathaway and the rest of the masked figures, his stable which includes The Gunn Club and Ethan Page. Hathaway was then met by another masked man who took the casino chip while Sympathy For The Devil rang around the arena.
By the time the night was over, everyone was clued into what was going on as the masked man reappeared after CM Punk defeated Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship, taking off his mask and replacing it with a Burberry scarf – MJF was back.
At the post-show media scrum – which was highly controversial for a myriad of reasons mainly involving CM Punk – Tony Khan gave his comments about MJF returning to the company after the star apparently wanted to leave earlier this year and had last been seen launching an expletive-laden tirade towards Khan in the ring:
“I’m the one who asked him to come back, because MJF’s a big star in this company, and this is one of the biggest events. A year ago, CM Punk debuted here, and I thought it was right for the fans … For the fans, I thought the best that would do as a company was bring MJF back.”
