Ever since it was announced that CM Punk would be returning to AEW speculation and controversy around the star have kicked into overdrive.
The man himself has also made sure to make the most of it by being critical of Hangman Adam Page in a recent interview and taking a couple of digs at the Young Bucks upon his return on Collision.
While the comments about the Bucks were reportedly cleared by management, that hasn’t stopped speculation running wild on social media.
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, AEW boss Tony Khan has now offered his thoughts on promo. Unsurprisingly, Khan praised Punk’s “sharp wit” and said that it was clear that fans were delighted to have him back.
“I thought that it was a great show. CM Punk spoke his mind in the opening segment, and it set up for a very compelling main event. We saw CM Punk prove in the ring that he’s still got it. He went out there with FTR and they went nearly 30 minutes with Samoa Joe, Juice Robinson, and Jay White, three of the best.
I believe the fans were so happy to see CM Punk back in wrestling, so happy to hear that he still has that sharp wit, and I believe the match itself delivered. It was a great main event. The fans are so happy to have CM Punk back in pro wrestling and in AEW,”
CM Punk Returns To AEW Dynamite
Following the success of his appearance on Collision, CM Punk made a shock run-in on Dynamite four days later. The star came to the aid of The Hardys and Ricky Starks who were being beaten down by Bullet Club Gold and The Gunns. After receiving a rapturous reception, Punk addressed the crowd and laid down a challenge for Collision, commenting that he wasn’t even supposed to be there.
