Tony Khan Confirms He Didn’t Know About CM Punk’s All Out Rant In Advance

CM Punk Tony Khan AEW All Out Media Scrum

AEW President Tony Khan has spoken publicly about CM Punk for the first time since the infamous backstage brawl that occurred following All Out in September.

For anyone that may have somehow missed it, during a media scrum following AEW’s All Out show, CM Punk took aim at The Elite, Hangman Adam Page and Colt Cabana, amongst others, in an explosive rant that touched on a number of real-life issues.

Following the media scrum, reports emerged that a backstage brawl involving a number of AEW talents occurred. In the aftermath of the incident, multiple people were suspended by the company, most notably Punk, Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks, who were also stripped of their respective championships.

While it has been announced that The Elite will make their return this Saturday at Full Gear, there has been no official word on CM Punk’s future with the company.

Tony Khan Offers No Comment On CM Punk’s Current AEW Status

During a recent media call prior to Full Gear, Tony Khan was asked about CM Punk’s status but refused to comment on the current situation.

However, he did praise Punk for his on-screen contributions to AEW prior to his suspension:

“I can’t comment on that. I have nothing but positive things to say about the contributions CM Punk has made in AEW on screen and I certainly have a lot of positive things to say about the things he did in AEW to date, but I do understand why you’d ask and I appreciate you asking.”

There had been speculation that Punk’s actions in the All Out media scrum were pre-planned, but Khan has denied having any prior knowledge of Punk’s rant:

“You were, I don’t wanna comment beyond this but you were sitting five feet and I did not know… No I did not know [that Punk was going to go on a rant], but I will not comment beyond that except to say I had Keith and Swerve coming up right after that and I had Toni Storm after that and I had important stuff to talk to them about.”
