AEW President Tony Khan has heaped praise on a recent AEW signee and says they have the potential to become the biggest star in the entire business.
Khan was speaking on Rasslin’ with Brandon F. Walker about former NXT Champion Adam Cole and the impact he has had since he made his debut in AEW. Cole shocked the system and the world when he debuted for the promotion at the end of the All Out pay-per-view, reuniting with his friends The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega in The Elite.
Tony Khan says the reaction Cole gets from the fans is indicative of just how big a star The Panama City Playboy could be:
“This is someone I have so much respect for and I think is one of the big stars in wrestling and I think has the potential to become the biggest star in wrestling. He’s so, so electric in the arenas. The fans care about him so much.”
Khan also elaborated on the challenges of pacing himself in terms of putting on blockbuster matches every week given the influx of stars such as Cole, Bryan Danielson, and CM Punk to the company in recent months:
“It’s a challenge not to put the new free agents and all the top wrestlers in, like, the huge matches every week and there’s something to be said for having the biggest matches on television, which we’re building to.”
“Stuff like Bryan Danielson vs. Hangman Page for the world title and giving Hangman such a huge match on television for everybody to see right out of the gate. And we’re building toward huge matches on TV every week and I think it’s important to build to them.”
Back to Adam Cole and Tony Khan commented on the star’s recent rivalry with Jungle Boy that has resulted in a series of matches the AEW boss calls “amazing:”
“Man, they’ve had some amazing matches between them. When you look at the singles match they had in Newark and then whether it’s the six-man tag at Grand Slam or the [falls count anywhere six-man tag team bout at All Out].”
“Then there were also some amazing matches along the way including a main event on Rampage that I thought was outstanding with Adam Cole and Bobby Fish taking on Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus, which was one of the best matches we’ve had on Rampage.”
