Tony Khan Calls Latest Signing “Huge For AEW”

As anticipation builds for the latest AEW signing to make himself known on Dynamite, Tony Khan calls the signing “huge.”

AEW changed the landscape of professional wrestling when they came into existence in 2019, and owner Tony Khan is known for building an incredible roster of talent during the company’s short tenure, featuring young stars like Sammy Guevara and Britt Baker while also featuring established talent such as Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, and Bryan Danielson.

The promotion is no stranger to opening the so-called Forbidden Door, eagerly looking to work with talent from promotions across the world. Stars from IMPACT Wrestling, New Japan, and GCW have regularly been featured on the company’s programming.

Tony Khan has made it clear that he’s always looking to attract more signings in the best interest of the company, and revealed that his latest acquisition will walk straight through the Forbidden Door into a spot on the next episode of Dynamite. Taking to social media, Khan revealed that the free agent in question will face Isiah Kassidy for a chance to qualify for the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match, the winner of which is guaranteed a TNT Championship opportunity.

Speaking to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Tony Khan added hype to the prospect of this new signing and discussed how playing with the idea of what the Forbidden Door means adds excitement as people look forward to the reveal on Dynamite.

“It’s a huge signing for us. I have created some debate about what it means to open the ‘Forbidden Door,’ and that’s what we are going to do on this show. The fans are going to get a great night of wrestling, and I hope everyone is surprised—and comes back for the matches this sets up.”

Adding to that, Khan reaffirmed that the signing to be revealed on Dynamite would set up fresh, exciting matches for the company, and would have implications as soon as this Friday’s episode of Rampage.

“I’m continually looking to improve the roster and bring in new stars and create fresh matchups, and that’s what you’re going to see this Wednesday. We now have such a strong roster of wrestlers under contract that we can put fresh, exciting matches on Dynamite every Wednesday on TBS and Rampage [every Friday] on TNT.

“It’s going to be a big reveal on Dynamite. It sets up this week’s Rampage and puts a lot of irons in our fire. We have created an environment in AEW where people routinely expect great wrestling matches, and we have the wrestlers to live up to those high expectations.”

Tony Khan is adamant that the element of surprise is keeping AEW exciting for its fans.
“There are going to be some great matches this week on Dynamite. In addition to that, the element of surprise will give the fans that much more of a thrill.”
Speculation abounds as to who the new signing could be, with many believing it will turn out to be the recently-married Keith Lee, whose non-compete clause expired on February 2nd and is believed to be AEW-bound whether he is the mystery signing or not. While many also speculate about the possibility of Jeff Hardy joining his brother Matt in AEW, a recent report details why that is not possible at this time.
