AEW President Tony Khan has heaped praise on Chris Jericho revealing just how integral the first ever AEW World Champion has been to the young promotion.
Appearing on the Dan Le Batard Show, Khan first heralded Jericho as an “all-time great” in-ring performer, before outlining just how key he has been to AEW’s success.
Khan revealed that Jericho has helped bring people into the company as well as developing story ideas. Adding that the veteran is “one of the most valuable people in wrestling.”
“Jericho has been a great investment. Chris is one of the all-time great wrestlers and still one of the great wrestlers today and also one of the greatest minds in wrestling. In addition to being in some of the most famous matches in AEW like the Stadium Stampede or his title win over Hangman Page or defending the title against Cody Rhodes or losing the title to Jon Moxley, the Blood & Guts match, Chris has been in a lot of big matches in AEW. He’s also, with his mind, helped me organize AEW. He’s brought in great names, helped with story ideas. He’s one of the most valuable people in wrestling. I was very fortunate to be linked up with Chris,”
Chris Jericho has proven to be a key cog in the AEW machine since he signed with the company in early 2019. In the years that have followed, Jericho was crowned the first ever AEW World Champion, clashed with the likes of Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley while heading his own faction, The Inner Circle.
Away from the ring, Jericho is also credited with helping AEW bring in stars such as Moxley and Matt Hardy.
On the most recent episode of AEW Dynamite, titled Road Rager, Jericho was involved in an altercation with a fan who tried to rush the ring.
With Jericho waiting for the arrival of his sworn rival MJF, the fan jumped the guard rail and made a B-line for ring, being narrowly missed by a right hook from the ‘Demo God.’
