Tony Khan Anticipating Major Change With Next AEW Media Rights Deal

Tony Khan is optimistic that the way fans view AEW content will change for the better when the media rights are renewed.

Much like any other form of entertainment, the way fans watch wrestling has changed significantly in the past few years. Beginning with the WWE Network, promotions such as TNA and NJPW have followed the streaming model of offering archive footage and pay-per-views for a small monthly fee. AEW remains under the old model where old pay-per-views still need to be purchased separately and select episodes of TV are available to watch on Triller TV. With fans wanting a more streamlined way to watch archived content and wanting to pay a similar price to what their competitors charge, Khan has provided an update.

Speaking on the media call ahead of the Dynasty pay-per-view, Khan admitted that All Elite Wrestling should also have a dedicated platform for older content and hopes that this will finally happen when media rights are renewed later in the year:

“An archive library and a place to put streaming events is a really interesting idea and certainly something that has existed in wrestling and wrestling fans are able to watch a lot of events on streaming and AEW events should be up there. It’s something that I expect to happen in our next media rights deal. We’re in an exclusive window right now talking to Warner Brothers Discovery, which is amazing and has been a great time.”

Also on the media call, Tony Khan was asked if he would ever consider stepping down as the head booker in the promotion.

Tony Khan Addresses CM Punk Claim

Earlier in the month, CM Punk appeared on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani and made a number of comments about his time in AEW. Among those was how the promotion handled his injury in 2022, where Punk claimed that he had to book and pay for his own surgery. Asked about the CM Punk claim on the media call, Tony Khan stated that he had to look into it.

H/t to Fightful.
