Tony Khan Announces Return Of Owen Hart Foundation Tournament

Britt Baker and Adam Cole win the Owen Hart Memorial Tournament at AEW Double or Nothing

Owen Hart was one of the greatest professional wrestlers ever to lace up a pair of boots. And though he passed away much too soon, his legacy continues to live on through various means.

One of the ways Owen is honored is through All Elite Wrestling’s annual Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, which, through a partnership with the Owen Hart Foundation and their founder, Martha Hart, AEW showcases a series of matches, eventually crowning one woman and one man the holder of the cup for one year. This year will be special because, as Tony Khan explained on tonight’s AEW Dynamite, most of the tournament will be held in Canada, ultimately leading to the finals taking place at the House Rules show in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on July 15.

The opening ceremonies are scheduled to occur at Double or Nothing on May 28, followed by the opening matches being held while they are on their Canadian tour. Related matches will also occur at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door show scheduled for June 25.

What happened during last year’s Owen Hart Tournament

It will be interesting to see what direction they choose to book the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament this year. Last year, we saw Adam Cole fight his way to the Championship Trophy in the men’s bracket, and his real-life partner, Britt Baker, claimed the top prize on the women’s side of things. Martha Hart, herself, appeared at the finals at Double or Nothing in May 2022 and awarded the winners their prizes. It will be interesting to see if she returns for this year’s festivities.
