Tony Khan is thinking big as AEW prepares to wrap its residency at the former ECW Arena in Philadelphia. Dynamite is set to kick off in just a few hours, and the AEW-ROH owner has shaken things up in a major way.
Khan seems to be high-up on matches that end with the winners receiving a big storyline pay-off in cold hard cash. The lifelong wrestling fan booked a $300,000 Three Kings Christmas Casino Battle Royal at the 2022 Holiday Bash Rampage 2, won by AR Fox and Top Flight. That was the last money match in AEW until Brian Cage won $100,000 in a Collision Fatal 4 Way in January of this year.
JetSpeed, Will Ospreay, and Mark Briscoe won $400,000 on Dynamite in April, Sammy Guevara won $100,000 on Collision in May, Thekla won $100,000 on Dynamite in July, Gates of Agony won $200,000 on Collision that same week, while July closed with The Conglomeration and The Outrunners winning $400,000 on Collision. Kris Statlander then won $100,000 on Collision last month.
Tony Khan Announces $500,000 Prize For Dynamite
Tony Khan has revealed a $500K 10-Man Tag Team Match for tonight’s Dynamite in The City of Brotherly Love. The match will see World Tag Team Champions Bandido and Brody King join World Trios Champions Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Katsuyori Shibata to battle Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, Nick Jackson, and Matt Jackson.
The winning team of five will receive $500,000, apparently split five-ways with $100,000 per grappler. Khan took the opportunity to continue the ongoing heckling against The Young Bucks.
