Tony Khan and Shane McMahon recently met in private to discuss “possibilities moving forward”.

While the phrase “A McMahon in AEW” seemed like the most unlikely scenario in wrestling at one point, circumstances have changed drastically in the past year and 2024 remains one of the most unpredictable years in professional wrestling news. Following on from Jim Ross initially stating on his podcast that Shane McMahon had “reached out” to AEW stars about potentially becoming a part of the promotion, WrestleTalk and Fightful have since learned that the two held a meeting at a private Arlington airport on July 29th. Photo evidence has also been provided of the meeting:

More information regarding the meeting has been added on Fightful Select, with sources within the company confirming that the photo is legitimate and that Khan had been “open” to talking with McMahon for a while and that this was the first time that they had spoken. Additionally, Khan has been open to the idea when it has been brought up backstage. Fightful also adds that AEW personnel had not been briefed on the meeting when asked the following day.

Previously, current TBS Champion Mercedes Mone also stated that she ran into McMahon at an airport and had a lengthy conversation with him.

Later that day, Shane McMahon issued a statement regarding the meeting.

The last time that McMahon was seen on TV was at WrestleMania 39 after being announced as a surprise opponent for The Miz by fellow co-host Snoop Dogg. Tearing his quad shortly after the bell rang, McMahon rolled to the outside and Snoop Dogg improvised a finish to the match.

Fightful also adds that McMahon is not under any contract with WWE so is free to appear in AEW whenever he chooses.
