AEW President Tony Khan says that former WCW owner Ted Turner didn’t know 1% of what knows about professional wrestling, promising that AEW is here to stay.
In light of the extended final 30 minutes of Friday Night SmackDown going up against AEW Rampage commercial free Ton Khan has gone on the offensive.
The AEW head honcho initially said that he couldn’t wait to beat WWE’s main show, before hitting out at the company for running the final portion of their show without commercials. Khan described the move as “pretty predatory,” before saying he can do that too, and for longer as he has more money.
According to Dave Meltzer writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this has led to some within WWE to suggest that Khan is simply going to lose money. Not only that, there is a feeling that “we beat Ted Turner and Ted Turner is smarter than Tony Khan.”
Tony Khan has now fired back in now typical fashion saying that Ted Turner doesn’t know 1% of what he knows about professional wrestling.
I’ve never met Ted Turner. It’s very possible Ted Turner is smarter than me, but he didn’t know 1% of what I know about professional wrestling or WCW would still be on TNT/TBS. @AEW is here to stay, watch #AEWRampage LIVE tonight on TNT or WatchTNT app on your phone or any device https://t.co/eYLCzCiMiQ

Khan’s comments come after Universal Champion Roman Reigns fired his own shots in AEW’s direction. Reigns initially said that he didn’t see AEW as competition before turning his attention to CM Punk.
The Head of the Table said that potentially facing Punk “wouldn’t elevate him” adding that he last “lost a step or two” since leaving WWE in 2014.
