In recent weeks, AEW President Tony Khan has taken on a more visible role in AEW programming, notably making appearances on the April 24th and May 22nd episodes of Dynamite.
During a media call for AEW Double or Nothing, Tony Khan discussed his approach to appearing on AEW television in response to a query from Bill Pritchard of WrestleZone.
Khan emphasised that he has intentionally limited his on-screen appearances over the past five years, ensuring that the focus remains primarily on the wrestlers and the wrestling. He estimated that less than one-tenth of 1% of television time had been devoted to him during this period.
I really tried to limit the amount of appearances I have personally made over the past five years. It would be fair to say that less than one-tenth of 1% of television time has been spent on me over the last five years. That’s how it should be. Occasionally, if a match had to be made or a major announcement, I would come out and do those things.
Khan expressed his commitment to engaging with fans at live events, signing autographs, and taking photos, reiterating the importance of spotlighting the wrestlers during televised shows.
I am planning to visit the fans this weekend and I love being at the events before and after with the live crowd, signing autographs and taking photos whenever I can. It’s really important to me that the focus of the show is on the wrestlers and the wrestling.
Reflecting on his recent brief appearances, Tony Khan stressed that the focus should be on the wrestlers, as exemplified by the reaction to Darby Allin‘s entrance into the arena. He highlighted the only reason he appeared was to lift Allin’s ban and that the shows should be centred around the wrestlers, ensuring that their presence and actions take precedence.
You don’t need to see a ton of me. It should be about the wrestlers, and the reaction Darby got when he got into the arena. Because the Young Bucks banned him from the arena and Kenny Omega has been out with surgery, there was really only one person who could lift that ban.
What Did Tony Khan Say About The Upcoming AEW Double Or Nothing Show?
