After AEW Dynamite went off the air, Tony Khan addressed the live crowd as chaos behind the scenes continues.
On the September 7th edition of Dynamite AEW President Tony Khan appeared in a backstage video package to address a number of upcoming changes.
Khan explained that the AEW World Championship and the AEW World Trios Championship were now vacant, although he did not reference why. In reality the changes are due to suspensions to CM Punk, the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega.
The AEW boss was initially greeted with a very mixed response from the crowd before he outlined plans for new champions to be crowned. The jeers turned to cheers as Khan announced a World Trios Title match for that night, and a tournament to decide a new World Champion.
It has been noted by fans in attendance that Khan also came out onto the ramp to talk to fans after the Dynamite taping finished, as the ringside area was set up for Rampage.
Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics revealed that Khan was again greeted by a mixed reaction as he said he wanted to put on the best three hours in AEW history.
