NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa has discussed his peculiar first meeting with Triple H and Vince McMahon long before he joined WWE.
In 2005, Ciampa appeared on WWE television playing the lawyer of Muhammed Hassan who was confronted and then decimated by The Undertaker.
Speaking to Metro Tommaso Ciampa recalled being called to the WWE Chairman’s office to read his script and was confronted by a familiar scene – albeit played out by two of the biggest names in wrestling history:
“There was a point in the day I still remember so vividly today where I had to do a rehearsal in front of Vince where I would read my lawyer script. When I finally got to go into Vince’s room, Hunter was making protein shakes. It’s just one of those things that to this day – I walked in so nervous, the second I saw him in a muscle tank top making protein shakes offering one to Vince, all my tension and nerves just went away.”
“It was like, ‘Oh this is like two dudes in the gym, these are the people I grew up around.’ It’s such a weird thing but it was like, I still remember that feeling and it’s something that I’ve carried with me.”
The young Tommaso Ciampa made a career for himself as ‘The Sicilian Psychopath’ before returning to WWE in 2015 joining Johnny Gargano as #DIY. The team had a modern classic against The Revival where they defeated the team now known as FTR for the NXT Tag Team Championship in a Two Out Of Three Falls Match.
Ciampa shockingly turned on Gargano after they lost a match against Authors Of Pain as #DIY tried to reclaim their title. After suffering a serious knee injury Tommaso Ciampa returned to NXT continuing his blood feud with Gargano before capturing his first NXT Championship.
Tommaso Ciampa won that title for the second time in his career on the premiere episode of NXT 2.0 on the 14th of September. Ciampa won the vacant title in a Fatal Four Way match that also featured Von Wagner, LA Knight, and Pete Dunne. Ciampa will defend that title against Bron Breakker at the upcoming NXT Halloween Havoc.
