TNA Legend, Now In WWE, Confirms Retirement After 21-Year Career

Backstage at a WWE TV taping, the TNA World Title on display

WWE and TNA shocked the wrestling world more than one year ago by announcing their partnership, which has since expanded. TNA once chased WWE in hopes of becoming the #1 promotion in America, and one of its most loyal grapplers is now opening up on the status of his career, and his job with WWE.

Christopher Park has worked as a WWE Producer since January 2019. Long before taking the gig, Park made his name in the wrestling world as Abyss. The former World Heavyweight Champion is widely regarded as one of the few TNA Icons, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2018. Abyss had several historic moments with TNA, becoming its second Grand Slam Champion and fourth Triple Crown Champion.

The Monster has been in the industry for more than 30 years, and two dozen of those years were spent as an in-ring competitor. Abyss’ last match was a Monster’s Ball win over Mojo McQueen at Rival Showdown Pro Wrestling’s “And Out Come The Wolves” event on April 20, 2019.

Shortly after getting hired by WWE, sources reported that there was no talk of Abyss wrestling for the Stamford-based promotion. Talk then was that the Washington, DC native was “very happily” retired, especially due to the wear and tear he put his body through over the years. Now the man himself has opened up on his status.

WWE Producer Abyss Confirms Retirement

Christopher Park has confirmed that Abyss is no more. The man formerly known as Abyss spoke with Fightful Select to promote his inclusion in the WWE 2K25 Dunk & Destruction DLC. The playable character includes the infamous “Janice” weapon and his entrance theme.

The Weapon of Mass Destruction never made an official retirement announcement. However, the current WWE Producer told Fightful that he has no plans to ever wrestle again.

“To answer quite frankly, I’m done. I don’t have plans to ever wrestling again. Never say never, but I don’t see it in the cards, and I don’t want it in the cards. I’m so happy what I’m doing as a producer,” Park said.

Park seemed “incredibly fulfilled” with his current job, and said he loves game-planning and working behind-the-scenes for WWE. The fan-favorite added that he has not pushed WWE to make him an on-screen character, but he’s open to bringing the Joseph Park character to the storylines. He previously appeared on SmackDown in August 2020 during an angle with AJ Styles.

Abyss was praised over the years for remaining loyal to TNA while an in-ring competitor. He noted in this interview that he almost signed with WWE several times in the 2000s, and was always very flattered by their offers.
