WWE have announced that WrestleMania 37 host Titus O’Neil is to be the recipient of the 2020 Warrior Award.
The Tampa Bay Times initially broke the news, which has now been confirmed by WWE themselves.
“Presented to an individual who has exhibited unwavering strength and perseverance and who lives life with the courage and compassion that embodies the indomitable spirit of The Ultimate Warrior.”
Speaking on the news, WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon commented:
“Titus is a dedicated father, humanitarian and WWE Global Ambassador. His unwavering passion to help others in need is simply unmatched… Although he does not seek recognition, I am thrilled that his work will be spotlighted to WWE fans around the world.
Titus O’Neil is the founder of The Bullard Family Foundation, which helps children and families in need. While in his role as a WWE Ambassador, O’Neil works in conjunction with WWE’s non-profit partners such as Susan G. Komen, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Special Olympics.
In 2019, the former WWE Tag Team Champion released his first book “There’s No Such Thing as a Bad Kid: How I Went from Stereotype to Prototype.”
Away from the Hall of Fame, O’Neil is set to host WrestleMania 37 alongside Hulk Hogan. Reacting to the news, the Tampa Bay resident, described the role as “directing the ship.”
Elsewhere, O’Neil recalled how he found out that he was going to be given the role. Revealing that it was Vince McMahon who made the phone call.
“Vince told me, ‘You’re going to be hosting WrestleMania. It’s only right. This is your city. You do a lot in this community and people love you. We appreciate you in WWE and all you’ve done and continue to do to represent our company well. We think this will be a great spot for you.’ It wasn’t something that I said, ‘Hey, I need to be the host.’ It was, ‘Here you go,’”
Inside The Ropes will have live coverage of the show when WrestleMania 37 night 1 kicks off at 1am BST on Saturday April 10th, followed by night 2 at 1am on Sunday April 11th!
