Tino Sabbatelli Addresses Rumors He Was A WWE Spy Whilst In AEW

Former NXT Superstar Tino Sabbatelli responded to Chris Jericho’s 2020 assertions that he was spying for WWE during an AEW appearance.

Five years after making his NXT in-ring debut on a live event, Tino Sabbatelli was released from his WWE contract as part of a mass culling of talent that was said to be due to budget cuts. Using the name Sabby, Tino Sabbatelli appeared on the July 21, 2020, episode of AEW Dark, teaming with Brady Pierce in a losing effort against Best Friends. However, his time with AEW was brief, and the star re-signed with WWE in October of 2020. He would be released again in June of 2021.

On an August episode of Saturday Night Special, Chris Jericho called out an “NXT reject” for leaking information from the pre-recorded episodes of AEW Dynamite. Said information was regarding Eric Bischoff’s appearance on the show.

“For example, when we had the debate and Eric Bischoff was announced on Reddit – and we know the spy is, by the way. Oh, we know. He’ll never f***ing be back in AEW. [An] NXT reject was a spy, so print that.”

Fightful Select reported that Tino Sabbatelli was the individual Chris Jericho had referred to as having leaked information from AEW Dynamite tapings, and Sean Ross Sapp clarified on Monday Night Live that the report was not confirmation of Sabbatelli leaking the news – but that he was to blame, according to several people within AEW.

Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Tino Sabbatelli recalled the situation and said that it made him laugh since he’s a self-professed “Internet dummy.”

“Oh man I had to laugh. If anybody knows me, I don’t know where to begin with this. I am an Internet dummy, I don’t know what a dirt sheet is, I am not on Twitter and I don’t use Instagram. So when someone tagged me and said ‘You hear what Chris Jericho said about you.’ What was it, NXT reject? At first I ignored it but people started to bring it up more and more, so I started to look into it. I’m like what is this dude talking about? For me to go on the internet and speak on something that I know nothing about?

“No disrespect, I don’t care about that much. When IMPACT called Terry Taylor asked me, I’m like I don’t know what a dirt sheet is. God honest truth, I don’t know what I would even say. Maybe that is why Tony Khan doesn’t like me that much.”

While in NXT, Sabbatelli debuted in 2016 alongside Riddick Moss in the 2016 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. The pair then made sporadic appearances on the brand before re-entering the tournament in 2018, losing to Sanity in the first round. Tino Sabbatelli would turn on Moss, who is now a member of the RAW roster, but suffered a torn pectoral muscle shortly after.
