WWE have officially announced that Timothy Thatcher and Tommaso Ciampa will do battle on January 20 in the much anticipated Fight Pit Match.
During the January 13 edition of NXT, the edict was made after the bout was removed from NXT New Year’s Evil on January 6. Though the match was meant to bring the ongoing rivalry to a conclusion in much the same way it did the enmity of Thatcher and Riddle in 2020, the company announced hours prior to the event that bout had been removed.
It was later revealed that submission specialist, Timothy Thatcher, had sustained an injury while training for the bout but that was later revealed to be a storyline vehicle to build drama for the clash.
During the latest edition of the black and gold brand, both men sat down with NXT commentator and former WWE Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett to discuss their rivalry. While the former Ringkampf member confirmed that his kayfabe injured had healed, Ciampa vowed that he would be a different animal than that Thatcher faced at NXT TakeOver: WarGames.
Though nothing has been confirmed as to where the brand will go with Ciampa following January 20, there is speculation that he could be moved to the main roster as soon as the Royal Rumble in the same vein as Matt Riddle when he fell in the very same bout.
