Thunder Rosa has been absent from AEW television since August 2022 when she announced that she would be unable to defend her Women’s Championship at All Out.
On the show, Rosa had been scheduled to put her title on the line against Toni Storm. In her place Storm won a match to become Interim Champion, a run which was later recognised as a ‘full’ World Title reign after she lost to Jamie Hayter and it became clear Rosa wouldn’t be returning any time soon.
Specific details about Thunder Rosa’s injury have been few and far between, although she has confirmed that she’s dealing with a back issue.
Thunder Rosa Back On Dynamite
Speaking in January, the now-former champion said that she would be returning to the road soon, although stopped short of revealing when she would be back wrestling. While Rosa hasn’t returned to the ring, she has quietly returned to AEW television. The star worked the February 8th episode of Dynamite in El Paso, Texas as part of the Spanish commentary team.
Despite being out of action, Thunder Rosa has remained in the spotlight, with some seemingly frustrated that she was allowed to keep hold of the AEW Women’s Championship for so long. Before competing at Full Gear Toni Storm said that the star should just “come back to work” and “defend her title like she’s supposed to.” These comments came after earlier claims that the situation had been “bothering a lot of people.”
After it was announced that Rosa would be taking a break from the ring numerous negative reports began to emerge about her conduct backstage. It was reported that the star had acted badly towards extras, and had heat with Jamie Hayter, while she and Britt Baker “couldn’t stand one another.”
