Despite a new Interim AEW Women’s Champion to be crowned at All Out, Thunder Rosa is not expected to be gone for too long.
Thunder Rosa shocked the wrestling world when she announced she was pulling out of the AEW Women’s Championship match at the All Out pay-per-view next month in Chicago. While reports suggest Rosa’s injury is due to bulging discs in her back, that has yet to be confirmed.
As a result of the injury, a new Interim AEW Women’s Champion will be determined in a Fatal Four-Way match at the pay-per-view. The participants will include Britt Baker, Toni Storm, Jamie Hayter, and Hikaru Shida.
A new report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided more details regarding Rosa’s injury. It noted that AEW going the Interim champion route is because Rosa is not expected to be out of action for long.
“Another issue this week involved women’s champion Thunder Rosa. Rosa was to lose her title on the All Out PPV show. She has been working with a painful back injury. The injury is not a work itself. The issue was timing, in the sense she bowed out over the injury at the same time she was to lose the title. There were many making Shawn Michaels early 1997 comparisons, whether valid or not. Rosa did an interview, in tears, talking about relinquishing the title, but then saying she would still be champion and they were having a match to determine the interim champion.
She is not expected to be out of action very long which is why they are going through the interim route, based on the precedent for what they did when Punk was injured and was expected to be out for only a few months. The idea is similar to Punk, she would return and face whoever the champion was. Britt Baker on her promo then brought up that she worked her title reign with a broken wrist, clearly a knock on Rosa for vacating. Rosa also had issues with Jamie Hayter stemming from Hayter breaking her nose working with Rosa.”
Regarding Rosa’s backstage heat, reports suggest that talent remain split on the situation. While some believe Rosa has developed an ego, others have praised her efforts in getting young talent featured in AEW.
The same report also stated that Rosa and Britt Baker can’t stand each other, while the Women’s Champion is not popular with Jamie Hayter after breaking her nose in a recent match.
