Thunder Rosa has predicted that her rivalry with Brit Baker will run and run, comparing it to the legendary run shared by The Rock and Steve Austin.
Since the creation of AEW in 2019, the promotion’s women’s division has become characterised by the rivalry between Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa and Britt Baker.
The two women first went to war at Beach Break in February 2021, before meeting again at St Patrick’s Day Slam a month later. The Unsanctioned Lights Out match was the first women’s bout to headline an episode of Dynamite, and earned critical acclaim across the board.
The two stars utilised thumbtacks and any number of other weapons, as they put on a display of awe-inspiring violence rarely seen in women’s wrestling in North America.
After the match, the two women went their separate ways until early 2022, with Thunder Rosa finally claiming the Women’s Championship at St Patrick’s Day Slam in a Cage Match.
During an appearance on Under The Ring, Rosa reflected on her rivalry with AEW’s resident dentist, comparing it to legendary feuds between The Rock and Steve Austin, and Trish Stratus and Lita.
“Every match that we had, it escalated to the next level. At first we had our match that was a regular match at Beach Break. Then, we had the tag matches and the blow off [Lights Outs]. The rivalry that we had, it’s real. Now that I took the title from her, it’s not something that is going to end. It’s like The Rock and Stone Cold (Steve Austin), something similar, or Trish (Stratus) and Lita. Something of that sort. Something that is never going to end.
Our matches were definitely more physical in terms of female wrestling. We pushed a lot of boundaries that I don’t think people were used to seeing women in the mainstream media, doing something of that sort, especially on the last one. I probably watched it 10 times and I cannot tell you the amount of pain that everyone that was part of that match went through. From the wrestlers to the referees. It was very intense and we definitely…we had an opportunity to elevate women’s wrestling to another level with it,”
Thunder Rosa is currently preparing to defend her AEW Women’s Championship against Serena Deeb at Double or Nothing, while Brit Baker is part of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
