Two huge title matches and more have been announced for the upcoming February 1st edition of AEW Dynamite.
Fresh off the back of an emotional tribute show to the late, great Jay Briscoe, AEW confirmed a number of huge matches for the following week.
Two title matches will take place on February 1st Dynamite
One of the biggest matches on this week’s Dynamite saw Bryan Danielson defeat “The Machine” Brian Cage. Danielson won with a sunset flip, but Cage wasn’t done. Since he took money from MJF to break Bryan’s arm, that’s what he tried to do. He almost Pillmanized Bryan’s arm until Konosuke Takeshita saved Bryan. Afterward, MJF cut a promo and announced that next week Bryan Danielson will face British wrestling veteran Timothy Thatcher.
Elsewhere on the card, The Acclaimed, Billy Gunn and the Gunn Brothers had a ‘family therapy’ skit filled with jibes and insults thrown at both sides. Ultimately, Billy Gunn asked what the Gunn Brothers wanted, and both of them answered “those”, motioning to the AEW World Tag Team titles. This led to a match between the two teams being made official for the following week.
Lastly, Darby Allin successfully defended his AEW TNT Championship against Buddy Matthews, which marked his fourth successful defense. However, it doesn’t look as though life for the champion will be getting any easier. After the match, Samo Joe cut a promo proclaiming himself “king” and vowing to reclaim the TNT Title. A match between the pair was quickly made official for seven days time.
Darby Allin defeated Joe to claim the TNT Title for a second time on January 4th.
