Thekla Claims The Triangle Ribbon Championship In Yokohama

By Liam Wyatt. Published 9th April 2021.

Austrian star Thekla has been on a mission to win gold in Ice Ribbon, having recently challenged for both the IW-19 and FantastICE titles respectively.

Although the ‘Toxic Spider’ may have narrowly missed out on those championships, on the third time of asking, she struck gold.

On May 3rd, at the promotion’s Yokohama Ribbon show, Thekla captured the Triangle Ribbon Title, defeating Ibuki Hoshi and now former champion Matsuya Uno to end her wait for Ice Ribbon infamy.

The Triangle Ribbon Title is one of the promotion’s most unique championships in that all title matches are contested as three-ways, hence triangle.

Each title match has a 15-minute time limit and the belt is declared vacant upon a time limit draw.

The enigmatic grappler becomes the 40th holder of the championship, which was established in 2009, and adds it to her World Underground Wrestling Women’s Title, which she defends on behalf of her home promotion in Austria.

Thekla has been a big hit in Ice Ribbon, separating herself from her peers by engaging in psychological warfare with her opponents, particularly via social media.
