The Young Bucks gave an update on Jack Perry following a controversial chair shot on AEW Dynamite.
The July 24th episode of AEW Dynamite featured the return of Blood and Guts. The team of Darby Allin, Mark Briscoe, Swerve Strickland, Max Caster & Anthony Bowens defeated The Elite, made up of Jack Perry, Kazuchika Okada, Matthew Jackson, Nicholas Jackson & “Hangman” Adam Page.
The match lived up to its name, with plenty of blood spilled and many weapons used. Near the end of the match, Jack Perry was handcuffed to the cage and hit with a brutal unprotected chair shot to the head, stirring controversy among the wrestling world due to the lasting impacts of head injuries and concussions. WWE announcer Corey Graves, who has lasting issues as the result of concussions, took AEW to task for allowing the shot before eventually deleting his tweet.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez reported that the chair in question was gimmicked to some degree, though he questioned how much that softened the blow to Perry’s head.
“I can tell you this, it was one of the shaved-down chairs. I don’t know how shaved down that is. I don’t know how soft that is. It was a gimmicked chair. Still, they waffled that dude with that chair.” (h/t Ringside News)
The Young Bucks Addressed Jack Perry’s Health Following Blood & Guts
Speaking in a new interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, AEW EVP’s The Young Bucks were asked about the chair shot, and Nicholas Jackson had this to say:
“All I know is Jack is fine, and that’s all that matters. We know the risk we’re taking in the ring and it wouldn’t have happened if he wasn’t prepared for it.”
Elsewhere on the show, Kamille made her AEW debut and aligned with Mercedes Mone.
