The Young Bucks Reveal They Wanted To Delay FTR Match

AEW World Tag Team Champions, The Young Bucks, have revealed that they attempted to wait until February to give the go-ahead to their clash with FTR.

FTR vs. The Young Bucks was a fantasy warfare on every fan’s wish list several years ago when Cash and Dax were The Revival in WWE and Matt and Nick Jackson were the hottest property on the independent circuit.

As FTR came to the end of their WWE tenure, the teams began to tease collisions on social media and when arguably one of the greatest teams in the world today finally found their way to AEW, there was nothing stopping them from fulfilling the wish of fans worldwide.

While those dreams came true at AEW Full Gear on November 7, the bout was nearly delayed until AEW Revolution on February 27, 2021, thanks to the Jackson brothers wanting to wait until COVID-19 was no more and fans could pack out arenas.

Sitting down with The Walkway to Fight Club Podcast, Matt Jackson detailed how and why they were hesitant to allow the biggest tag team outing the promotion’s ever seen to go head in a global pandemic:

“Finally, it got to the point where it was like, ‘What are we waiting for? We can’t just keep waiting, and we can’t hold back. Because who knows, this can go another year. By the time we finally do it a year later, do people even care at that point?’ Do you know what I mean?

I think people will only remember the match for that, a love letter to tag team wrestling. You know, the build maybe could have gone a little bit longer (as) people said it was a little rushed. But again, I don’t think at the end of the day, nobody’s even gonna think about that. They’re just gonna think about the match. Nick made a great point. Nobody thinks about when Hogan and Rock wrestled, nobody thinks about the fact there was a diesel involved, and someone got killed. Nobody thinks about that. They think about the match they had. I’m not comparing our match to that match. I’m just saying two different matches, but nobody thinks about the delivery of the match. I think we stuck the landing.“

The Young Bucks vs. FTR at AEW Full Gear proved to be a massive success for both teams and All Elite Wrestling in general. In the end, it was the Jacksons who came out on top to capture their first gold in the company.
