While The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega won the AEW World Trios Championships at AEW All Out, their title win was heavily overshadowed by what happened after the show went off the air. During a media scrum following the show, CM Punk launched into a verbal tirade against his former friend Colt Cabana, ‘Hangman’ Adam Page, and though he didn’t call them out by name, the AEW EVP’s, who he said “couldn’t manage a Target.”
Incensed by Punk’s comments, The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega went to his locker room to confront him, and the confrontation quickly turned into a brawl that saw punches thrown. CM Punk’s friend and trainer Ace Steel reportedly threw a chair at Nick Jackson as well as biting Kenny Omega, and all parties involved were suspended. The Elite were stripped of the AEW World Trios Championships, and CM Punk was also stripped of the AEW World Championship he’d won hours before.
Now, at long last, The Elite are back in AEW as Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks returned at AEW Full Gear to take on Death Triangle in an attempt to regain the trios titles. While they were unsuccessful as Rey Fenix scored a pinfall victory on Omega, they’ll have plenty more opportunities to prove which team is superior as they’re set for a best of 7 series on future episodes of AEW Dynamite.
