The WWE Star Who Begged To Take Massive RKO From Randy Orton

A current WWE star has recalled how the pitch came about for one of Randy Orton’s most devastating RKO’s.

Making his return to the company after more than 18 months away, Orton was revealed to be the final member of Cody Rhodes’ team for the War Games match at Survivor Series and helped the team pick up the victory over The Judgment Day and Drew McIntyre. The closing moments of the match saw Judgment Day member JD McDonagh launched off the top of the cage and hit with Orton’s finisher to the delight of the Chicago crowd.

Recalling the spot during an interview on the What’s The Story? podcast, fellow Judgment Day member Finn Balor revealed that it was McDonagh’s idea to take the finisher:

“Ah, of course (it was J.D. McDonagh’s idea for RKO spot in WarGames). He was begging to do it. It was his idea. But, when you’re young and hungry and eager and you wanna make an impression, that’s what you gotta do. You can’t wait for people to say, hey, do you wanna jump off the cage? You gotta say, no, I’ll do it.”

During the same interview, Finn Balor admitted that there was a period of his WWE career where he hit the lowest point professionally.

Randy Orton Gives Praise To Underrated WWE Star

Having been a part of the industry for more than 2 decades, Orton has seen many stars come and go and has seen many rising stars compared to some of the most famous performers of previous eras. Speaking in a previous interview, one WWE star recalled a very wholesome interaction with Randy Orton where the 14-time World Champion believed that the underrated wrestler had their breakout moment.
