The WWE Match That John Cena Had The Most Fun Promoting

John Cena has admitted that he had a lot of fun building up to a big match in WWE.

Cena looked to have the deck stacked against him at Survivor Series 2009 as he faced off against Shawn Michaels and Triple H in a 3-way match. To make things worse, Michaels and Triple H were very much united as DX at this point, seemingly making the match a handicap match.

All expectations were thrown out seconds after the opening bell as Michaels delivered a Superkick to his best friend, leaving the crowd and Cena momentarily stunned.

Recapping the match on his TikTok account, the 16-time World Champion referenced the spot in question and how his reaction went viral as a result:

“Alright internet, strap up because this one is fuel for your soul. DX vs. John Cena [Michaels Superkicks Triple H], there it is! Yep, that’s the clip that invaded the internet, you’ve seen it a million times. Anyway, the two members of DX battling it out against each other and I’m thrown into the mix. There are no friends here but there were no enemies [either] because there were really no bad guys in the match.”

Although Michaels and Triple H were serious in their pursuit of the title on the night, the build-up saw DX play into their comedic side. Looking back to the lead-up to the triple threat, Cena revealed that it was a lot of fun as DX tried and succeeded in making him break:

“The build-up to this match was the most fun I’ve ever had as Triple H and Shawn Michaels continued to get me to break character on camera on the way to this match. Then when the rubber hits the road, as you can see, all of us are trying to hit our finishing manoeuvres. Shawn Michaels is savvy enough to score Sweet Chin Music, but aloof enough to let me pick him up. As 85 wristbands in total go flying through the air I adjust his attitude onto Triple H and I am lucky enough to score a pinfall and get out of this one alive and with the WWE Championship.”

John Cena Assesses His Current Physical State

Very much involved with Hollywood more than sports entertainment, Cena has stated in a number of interviews that his last match is coming and it will be coming soon. Additionally, at 46 years of age, the former World Champion is aware that he is unable to put on the same quality of match as he could 10 years ago. In a recent interview, John Cena gave a unique assessment of his current conditioning as retirement edges closer.
