WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle opened up about a heated backstage altercation with the late Eddie Guerrero that escalated into a physical confrontation.
Speaking on Story Time with Dutch Mantell, Angle revealed that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding during a segment on WWE programming involving Team Angle and Eddie and Chavo Guerrero.
“I was a part of a faction at this point in time with Luther Reigns and Mark Jindrak, and we had to get heat on Eddie and Chavo that night. It was at the end of the show, and I never touched Eddie, I only grabbed a hold of Chavo and I got heat on him. The other two got heat on Eddie.”
However, Guerrero believed Angle had been too rough with him during the segment.
“When we came backstage, Eddie was pi**ed. He’s like, ‘What the f**k, you guys were shooting on me, beating me up for real.’ I’m like, ‘Eddie, I didn’t touch you.’ He said, ‘Yes, you did.’”
The argument escalated when Guerrero pushed Angle, leading to a scuffle.
“He pushed me, and I said, ‘Eddie, don’t do it again.’ He pushed me again, so I pushed him back, and he went to double-leg me. I sprawled on him, got him in a front headlock, and started choking him out.”
The fight was broken up by “The Big Show” Paul Wight, who effortlessly lifted Angle away.
“I was so pi**ed at Big Show because I got like little guy syndrome, I couldn’t believe how quickly he picked me up like I was nothing.”
Despite efforts to resolve the tension, a second altercation broke out, with Wight stepping in again. Angle later approached Guerrero to patch things up, highlighting the respect they ultimately had for one another despite the fiery exchanges.
