Drew McIntyre has discussed his lack of success in a particular stipulation match and which match contained the worst bump of his WWE career.
2020 saw McIntyre finally fulfil his destiny and become World Champion, winning the title in the main event of WrestleMania. Unfortunately, no fans were in attendance for the triumph as the world was on lockdown due to restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic.
With innovation required to generate an atmosphere for the performers and fans at home, WWE introduced the ThunderDome, a crowd made up of virtual fans watching from home. All of McIntyre’s defences would take place with no fans in the arena, including the match where he lost the title.
At Hell in a Cell, The Scottish Warrior defended the title against Randy Orton inside the demonic structure. With the match quickly descending into chaos, both men would fight on the side of the cell, leading to McIntyre falling off the cage and onto the announce table below similar to Shawn Michaels in the first-ever match in 1997. Orton would go on to win the match and his 14th World Championship.
Speaking with The West Sport, McIntyre stated that he has never won a Cell match in his career and the 2020 fall resulted in the worst bump of his career in WWE and beyond:
“I’ve lost every single cell match, I’ve fallen off the Cell. It was the worst bump of my entire career and I fell off 10 feet off the side. I was halfway up, but you know I’m 6′ 7″ with my wrestling boots on, so I’m looking back as before I fell an additional 7 foot nearly. So falling 17 foot through a table, and you got a table can break your fall. I’m not going to suggest this for anybody, but you know gravity is a hell of a thing, and you weight 280 [pounds], you pick up speed and it was the worst thing my career.”
McIntyre’s other appearance inside the steel structure took place one year later when the former World Champion lost to Bobby Lashley.
