The Way Capture NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship

Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell have won the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship, adding two more belts to the already illustrious title collection of The Way!

On the latest episode of NXT, LeRae and Hartwell challenged Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart for the belts in a Street Fight after tensions between the two teams reached boiling point. Before the champions’ scheduled non-title match against Alayah and Jessi Kamea of The Robert Stone Brand last week, The Way attacked the champions during their entrance and caused the match to be called off – leading to their confrontation here.

After a brutal 15-minute contest that saw Blackheart dive off the lighting scaffolding through the announce table and other high-risk manoeuvres, NXT’s resident ‘Poison Pixie’ captured the gold for her team via pinfall after delivering the Wicked Stepsister to Shotzi onto a prone steel chair. Interestingly, Dexter Lumis did not make an appearance during the bout despite his failed attempts to confess his love for Indi earlier in the show.

This marks both LeRae and Hartwell’s first title wins in WWE with the former picking up gold in only her second championship match in the company whilst the latter was finally successful after six challenges since her signing in early 2018.

The Way’s matriarch has previously challenged Shayna Baszler and Io Shirai for the NXT Women’s Championship and most recently failed to win the brand’s Women’s Tag Team titles alongside Indi at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver Night 2.

Elsewhere on NXT, AJ Francis debuted on the black and yellow brand to help Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott defeat Leon Ruff in the show’s Falls Count Anywhere opener!
