The Young Bucks opened up on their decision to re-sign with AEW.
In a recent episode of the Swerve City Podcast, the Bucks, members of The Elite in AEW, opened up about the process behind their decision to re-sign with the company. Matt and Nick Jackson revealed that they were uncertain about their future and had contemplated various possibilities.
The Young Bucks, alongside Kenny Omega and Adam Page, negotiated their contracts as a team. Matt expressed how surprising it was that people assumed they would re-sign without any doubts, stating:
We didn’t even know if we were going to re-sign… we all negotiated together as a team.
The negotiation process was not without its challenges. Matt mentioned that the votes did not always align, leading to conflicting emotions within the group.
The votes did not line up every time. There were a lot of emotions in the last year, as the world knows, so one day this person’s voting to leave, this person’s voting to go. We weren’t even on the same page the whole time.
Nick shared that at one point, Matt even considered retiring from wrestling altogether. However, Nick convinced him to continue and stay united as a team.
During their conversation, the topic of recent NBA contracts and the money involved came up. The Young Bucks humorously compared their own re-signing to an NBA-level contract. They acknowledged that as wrestling gains popularity, the industry as a whole could see more lucrative deals in the future.
They also emphasized the role of WWE in boosting the overall popularity of wrestling. Nick stated:
WWE helps us being hot because wrestling in general is hot now.
What’s Next For The Young Bucks In AEW?
The Young Bucks are currently scheduled to face The Hardy Boys on the August 9th episode of Dynamite. Although nothing has been officially confirmed, it has been heavily speculated that The Elite will be with AEW for a good while to come as they are rumoured to have signed a four-year deal with the company.
