Roman Reigns will be flying solo when he defends his Universal Championship against Seth Freakin’ Rollins at the Royal Rumble after the Usos were banned from ringside.
The January 21st episode of SmackDown opened with the Usos and Roman Reigns front and centre celebrating his record-breaking run as Universal Champion. However, the love-in was quickly interrupted by Seth Freakin’ Rollins who will challenge Reigns for SmackDown’s top prize at the Royal Rumble.
Rollins hit out at his former tag team partner, saying that he was being held up and supported by the Usos in the same way that he and Mox [Dean Ambrose] carried him when they teamed as The Shield. Rollins then challenged the Usos to a match in the main event of the show, with a partner of his choosing.
For a little added spice Rollins said that if he won the match, the SmackDown Tag Team Champions would be barred from ringside at the Royal Rumble. The challenger admitted that he was a little short on friends, but that problem was quickly fixed as Kevin Owens arrived to even the odds.
Reigns then proposed that if Rollins lost, he would forfeit his match at the Rumble.

After a barn-storming encounter in the main event, Rollins looked to be closing in on victory before Roman Reigns rushed the ring. Once inside, Reigns landed a Superman Punch on his rival to cause the disqualification. However, this meant that Rollins and Owens were declared the winners and the Usos will be banned from ringside at the Royal Rumble.
The show also saw surprise appearances from two WWE Hall of Famer’s in the form of Eric Bischoff and Jeff Jarrett. Meanwhile, it was announced that Noami and Sonya Deville will finally meet in the ring on January 28th.
