The Undertaker has expressed his concerns over a major change in WWE and if the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
Following the Endeavor takeover and Triple H now in charge of things behind the scenes, one of the biggest shifts has seen talent given a lot more time off from life on the road. With double tapings in place around the holidays and wrestlers being granted days off much more easily, the once gruelling WWE schedule is much less intense than in years prior.
In addition to time off for the holidays and special occasions, the live event schedule has been greatly stripped back with main roster stars only set to work TV tapings and dark matches from January to mid-March when the European tour begins.
Although many are happy to see the stars have a less intense schedule and have more time at home, Undertaker has questioned if the schedule has been reduced too much. Speaking about the change on his Six Feet Under podcast, The Phenom noted that the talent needed to keep their skills sharp, which is more difficult when they only work one match a week:
“Iron sharpens iron. You need those reps to keep your body and skills sharp. It’s hard to stay sharp when you’re only working four or five matches a month.”
Referencing his own experiences, Undertaker added that he would try new things at live events as if something went wrong it would not be broadcast worldwide:
“We tried new things at live events. You don’t want to experiment with something new on live TV and have it fall flat.”
