WWE Hall Of Famer The Undertaker has enjoyed a storied career like no other, not only lifting Championships in the ring but also being anointed as the leader of the WWE locker room during his tenure as an in-ring performer with the company. But ‘The Deadman’ has revealed that in the embryonic stages of his career, another wrestling legend was forced to stand up for him backstage
The Undertaker details Bruiser Brody standing up for him in WCWA
Talking on a recent edition of Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson, The Undertaker spoke about his early career and his first encounter, which came against the late, great Bruiser Brody. ‘Big Evil’, who was competing under the name of Texas Red in the WCWA at the time of their June 1987 bout, was quick to highlight how much he learned from Brody and praised the star for stepping in to protect him during a tense backstage moment:
My first match was with Bruiser Brody. Oh my god, bro… so I get there, and I’m all excited. And they say, ‘Okay, you’re going to work with Bruiser Brody. And I’m like, ‘Brody? Okay…’ So you know I’m a young man, I know how the business works a little bit in the sense like, ‘Okay just shut up, get in there and do what you got to do,’ you know? It was strictly to get Brody a win, because he was getting ready to work with Abdullah the Butcher.”
In fact, you know, shortly thereafter, you know, they were trying to ship me off somewhere else to a different territory. And Brody actually stood up for me. He says, You know what, you need to keep this kid and get rid of some of these other [wrestlers], in a locker room full of old crusty veterans, right? And he says that I’m thinking to myself, I’m like, well, that’s kind of cool that Brody stood up for me, but he’s about to walk out of this room, and I gotta look at all these old dudes, they’re like screw this kid man who the f*ck does he think he is.
The former WWE Champion and leader of the Ministry Of Darkness also shared memories of the legendary Andre The Giant during a fascinating interview with fellow WWE Hall Of Famer Tyson.
