The Undertaker Recalls Batista Feeling “Slighted” That They Weren’t Main Eventing WrestleMania

The Undertaker has revealed that his WrestleMania 23 opponent Batista was less than impressed that the two men were not in the main event of The Show Of Shows.

Nobody quite did WrestleMania the way The Undertaker did throughout his legendary career. An unparalleled undefeated streak became the cornerstone of WWE’s biggest show for decades as The Deadman battled all comers.

With The Undertaker a key part of the show as it was, his matches involving gold on The Grandest Stage Of Them All were few and far between. However, at WrestleMania 23, The Undertaker did find himself competing for the World Heavyweight Championship against Batista after winning the 2007 Royal Rumble.

Speaking on WWE’s the Bump, The Undertaker recalled that match and how Batista felt perturbed that the two WWE icons were not the main event of that show. That honour went to the WWE Championship bout between John Cena and Shawn Michaels:

“We really did have a good match. Batista had a chip on his shoulder. He wanted to go out and steal the show. He was the champion going into that match and he felt slighted that we weren’t in the main event. He was so motivated to go out there and steal the show. It was a lot of fun.”

“I think that was one of his better matches and not just because of me but because of the motivation that he had. He was so in-tune and I remember coming back through the curtain after it was all over and he came back. I remember him yelling out in Gorilla, ‘Follow that!’ And I was thinking to myself, that’s cool, but you know, Shawn’s still got to work.”

The Undertaker defeated Batista in their contest, keeping his streak alive and capturing championship gold for only the second time at WrestleMania.
